Compare our Founding Fathers to our Floundering Ones
Saturday, December 27th, 2008As a new administration prepares to take charge; “hope” is in the air. The major media is poised to admire and protect President Elect Obama as he selects his senior staff and cabinet officials. Progress seems rapid and his choices; pragmatic. Much to the disgust of the gay-lesbian coalition, Pastor Rick Warren has been chosen to participitate in the inauguration. The sexually abnormal crowd is obsessed with being declared normal in moral and legal terms. While society has come a long way in “accepting” the lifestyle of gays and lesbians; that is not enough. While upset for now with Obama, the next four years could produce a change in the Supreme Court and with the addition of another Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the moral basis of our U S history could be over. I can only “Hope for Change” that will preserve our Constitution as our Founding Fathers intended.
Our Founding Fathers were all moral men. Most were religeous and Christian having been freed from the restrictions of government in Europe generations ago. The Declaration of Independence (1776) and the U S Constitution and Bill of Rights (1787) approved on December 15, 1791 with 10 of 12 amendments approved by the states.
Durring this 15 year period civil communication prevailed and concluded with the worlds first and only constitution limiting government, with the rights of freedom not limited BY government.
Fast forward to today. While over 40,000 registered lobbyist in Washington, we have lost our relationship with our represenative republic. Our represenatives and senators have become seperated from the citizens as the cost of elections has grown. Note if you will, the publics concerns over illegal immigration, movement towards a North American Union with Mexico and Canada as well as the misshandled “bailout”. In numereous opinion polls, the public oppose the actions taken by the U S Congress. Why? Why has illegal immmigration been allowed to continue? A reminder, President Eisenhower in 1954 was the “last” president to eliminate most illegals in mainly the Southwest states. He did it over the objections of Southern senators and U S represenatives who were being lobbyied hard to allow low cost labor for their farms and factories. Today, illegals are in all 50 states and the lobbyist are stronger than ever in controlling legislation.
The possibility of loosing our sovereignty to an European Union (EU) type government is real. With legislation and a liberal Supreme Court, we could loose our U S Constitution which protects us today.
Our current crisis of housing, financial institutions and industrys such as American automobile companies, has been brought about by lobbyist from the world financial community. As capital has been allowed to move to cheap labor sourses, America has lost middleclass manufacturing to Japan, Korea and most dramatically; Communist China. Once again, lobbyist are responsible as the seperation between our elected officials and us.
We are as guilty of our current plight as the lobbiest. As our prosperity grew, as the world shrunk, as low cost products became available; we said nothing. As lobbyist for foriegn investors grew in influence; so did the costs of campaigns for office. Thus we were less influential to our elected officials and we were only enertained at the end of each election cycle. We became only interested in “winning” elections as Republicans or Democrats. It became more “sport” than a serious task of keeping the gifts of our Founding Fathers.
Symbolism (Obama)or Substance (McCain)
Monday, July 7th, 2008As the 2008 campaign for President unfolds, the major media, displays its bias favoring Senator Barack Obama. This bias includes the New York Times as well as TV networks. NBC, CBS plus most news anchors on CNN, ABC and PBS. Many other news organization’s (AP-Ruthers- UPI) lean, slant, promote or ignore derogatory news on their favorite candidate. Obama triumphs in appearance, oratory and most emotional aspects of evaluating a candidate. This is symbolism. McCainon the other hand, is less skilled and less photogenic than Obama, detracting from his message of more factual information. This is substance.
Penguin Classics edition of “Gorgias” of Plato (reprinted 1982) classics gives us a lesson in understanding politics we see today. The book relates conversations between Gorgias, a professor of oratory and Socrates as to the “value” imparted by Gorgias. Gorgias traveled throughout the known world providing his skills to the wealthy class. The conversation eventually turned on the “Ethics” of the dialogue delivered. In other words; the reality or just the appearance of goodness. Symbolism or Substance should be our personal filter’s challenge as we evaluate our next President of the United States of America.
